Author Interview: Stacey Rourke – Author of TS901: Anomaly – A Dystopian Novel

Author Interview: Stacey Rourke – Author of TS901: Anomaly – A Dystopian Novel

Author Interview: Stacey Rourke - Author of TS901: Anomaly - A Dystopian Novel

Today, I am excited to share with you, my recent interview I conducted with Stacey Rourke, one of the Authors of TS901: Anomaly, a dystopian New Adult novel! I love talking to Authors and finding out more about their creative process. Enjoy:

  1. How do you dive into the development of such complex characters as you feature in your books? Do you know the character before the story, or create the character to fit your story idea?

First of all, thank you for the compliment. I have ideas about the history of the characters, who they are, what they’ve been through, where they are going, etc. BUT, their journey always introduces me to new elements of their character even I didn’t know beforehand. It’s an organic flow, developing them through time and journey, in the same fashion all of us become who we are.

  1. How does your workspace look like? Do you work from a home office, write anywhere you can find time and space, or do you need to get away from it all, and work from a cafe somewhere?

I have three different work spaces. My office is set up and organized for all my business needs. Then, I have a folding table in my living room for day to day administrative work because, well, my office is freezing and I don’t like being in that ice box if I don’t have to. When it comes to writing though, that leads me to my third workspace—wherever I feel comfortable and motivated by my muse. Could be on my bed, on the couch, in my recliner, outside, in a coffee shop, wherever! Comfort is key when I’m clicking away and building worlds.

  1. What is your favorite aspect of the writing and creation process?

On this particular project, which was my first collaboration, it was working with Tish Thawer. We wrote the book lobbing it back and forth, chapter after chapter, to each other. To see where she went with her sections, then taking the ball and running with it was an incredibly fun exercise of the craft for me. I hope she enjoyed it as much as I did.

  1. Which part of this process to you dislike the most?

I really can’t think of anything! This whole project has been fun!

  1. Do you have a writing ritual? A favorite cup of tea, a specific pen, or a playlist that you always have to play in order to get into the “Zone”?

I need something yummy to drink, a quiet corner, and a comfy chair.

  1. How do you carve out time for writing?

I once read an interview with Stephen King where he talked about the importance of writing every day. Even if it’s only a thousand words, it’s progress. I make it my goal to work on my books, even if all I can spare is an hour, every day. It might seem like bite-sized moments of time, but it adds up fast.

  1. What has drawn you to write a dystopian novel, like TS901, rather than any other genre? What do you like about this genre the most?

I can’t say I ever set out to do dystopian, or that I ever particular targeted a genre. The story ideas come first, in developing them is where the stage gets set. But I do like to challenge myself by trying out different genres. So far, I’ve done young adult, suspense fantasy, romantic comedy, fairy tale retelling, and now dystopian. I can’t wait to see where I’ll go from here!

Thank you, Stacey, for taking the time to answer my questions today.

Here is some more info about TS901, and of course a giveaway at the end. Good luck to all those who enter!

Wrong.

Thia Kelly has been changed by the TS901 chemical in the world’s water supply. Now, forced into hiding with the other inflicted outcasts, she struggles to survive as her powers emerge.

Super-soldier creation on a mass scale was their end goal, and thanks to an unfortunate family tie, Evan became Patient #1.

Title: Last Semester
Author: Corine Mekaouche
Publication date: April 21st 2017
Genres: Comedy, New Adult, Romance

When Johanna ‘Jo’ Gold, witty college life blogger and senior at Rutan University, decides to move in with three male strangers her last semester of school, her life unexpectedly turns upside down. While dealing with her new roommates, A.J., the pompous rich kid who feels trapped in following his father’s footsteps; Rob, the prematurely engaged former womanizer who tries to force Jo out of the house at all costs; and Drew, the 21-year-old virgin genius whose encounters with women have been more than limited, Jo learns that change isn’t always easy and it’s up to her to learn how to survive the remainder of her time at Rutan the best that she can. Along with searching for her missing mother, figuring out a clever way to pay for school tuition on her own, and dealing with the childish pranks brought on by a certain roommate, Jo’s issues seem more complicated than the average 21-year-old. Can Jo endure the dramatic perils of college while planning for life after graduation?

EXCERPT:

“Breathe, Rob! Just breathe!” I demand in a panicky voice from the back seat as we swiftly pull up to the entrance of the hospital. Clutching his chest in pain next to me, he heaves out a few spouts of air, but it’s not enough to help him.

Shit!

I watch my roommate Rob’s cheeks turn from a shade of deep pink to a dark crimson red. “A.J.! He’s getting worse!” I yell to my other roommate in the driver’s seat. He rolls his eyes then turns around.

“Calm down, Jo!” he exclaims. “I can’t think when you’re yelling like this!”

Drew, our other roommate, and usually the voice of reason, says nothing as he quickly jumps out of the Range Rover and runs into the hospital entrance.

“Can’t. Breathe,” Rob manages to force out of his mouth, then before I know it, his body falls limp and his head somehow ends up on my lap. His eyes roll to the back of his head.

“I think he’s dying!” I whine and suddenly I’m losing my breath.

Releasing a loud groan, A.J. climbs out of the SUV and casually walks into the hospital as if nothing is wrong.

Why is he so calm and I’m flipping the hell out?

I begin to shake Rob’s shoulders but he doesn’t respond and I’m almost positive that he’s not breathing at all now.

It’s official.

I killed my roommate.

Okay, maybe he’s not dead yet, but if death was a road, he just made a left turn for the worse then ran over a few annoying potholes and some week old roadkill…and probably drove off a cliff or something…

Ugh! I don’t even know what I’m saying anymore! I feel guilty for doing this to him and I feel even more guilty because I kinda hate his arrogant, smug ass, but just because someone is an asshole doesn’t mean that they deserve to die, does it?

The back door opens and I see A.J. and Drew standing outside with a wheelchair. A.J. roughly wraps his arms around Rob’s body and begins to pull him out of the car. “Fuck! He’s like the size of an ogre,” he complains as he struggles to get Rob into the wheelchair. The fact that Rob is as useless as a wet noodle right now makes it difficult for A.J. to adjust Rob’s body in the chair. I cringe just watching it.

“I knew this was going to happen one day,” Drew says shaking his head. “The inevitable always happens.”

Shooting Drew a snarling glare, A.J. grits his teeth. “Just roll the goddamn chair into the hospital,” he instructs. Drew turns the chair around and begins to jog into the emergency room with Rob’s body leaning to one side. A.J. looks at me in the SUV, annoyed. “Well, are you coming?” he asks and I just freeze.

Do I stay? Do I go? I don’t know what to do with myself!

Taking a quick yet deep breath, I climb out of the SUV, shut the door and join A.J. on the other side of the vehicle.

“I’m horrible,” I blurt out and I can feel wetness welling in my eyes. “I’m a horrible person.”

“Dammit, Jo! I hate it when girls cry,” he complains as he shuts the other back door and begins to walk into the hospital. He pauses in his tracks when he notices that I’m not following him.

I’m frozen.

The Billionaire Shifter’s Secret Baby by Diana Seere – A Book Blitz

The Billionaire Shifter’s Secret Baby by Diana Seere – A Book Blitz

A paranormal romance with a Billionaire-theme! Now there is something I never heard of before, which is the reason why I am so intrigued. Yes, in contemporary romance novels, the Billionaire theme has been written to death, pretty much, but The Billionaire Shifter’s Secret Baby by Diana Seere is not your typical standard romance novel.

Enjoy!

Title: The Billionaire Shifter’s Secret Baby
Author: Diana Seere
Publication date: April 4th 2017
Genres: Adult, Paranormal

A masquerade ball in Malibu led to a single night of passion under the stars… and set the wheels of fate in motion.

Three years ago, waitress Kara Jablonski gave in to her wilder side with a fellow weretiger, the rock star billionaire Lars Jensen, a sun-kissed blond drummer with a viking’s build. Six weeks later, the pregnancy test came back positive.

Knowing Lars’ powerful, overbearing mother would be able to take the baby away, Kara did what she had to do.

She hid him.

Now chance has brought Lars back into her life, his touch making her pulse beat like the old legends. So strong, so loud, so bold.

So right.

But can she trust him to want more than another night under the stars? Can she trust him to claim his son as his heir… and Kara as his mate?

Fate responds with a roar…

The Billionaire Shifter’s Secret Baby is a novella that stars Lars Jensen, a member of a shifter family with viking blood featured in earlier books in the series, and is part of the Howls Romance series as well

Goodreads / Amazon

EXCERPT:

Under normal circumstances, Kara Jablonski would’ve been happy to pause and admire the towering blond god as he strode across the elegant lobby below the Platinum Club. His expensive black suit was obviously custom-made, cut perfectly to his broad shoulders, narrow waist, and powerful thighs. Above the impressive physique, thick hair swept away from his forehead in loose waves, gleaming like gold in the sunlight pouring in through the Boston skyscraper’s high windows. His eyes were a piercing cobalt blue. And even more stunning than the rest of him, one perfect dimple indented his chin as if kissed by a naughty, slutty angel.

Right… there. She could almost feel it under her lips.

Under normal circumstances, she would’ve taken the time to drink in every inch of him, knowing he’d never notice a girl like her even if she were openly drooling like a starving stray cat.

Meow.

But this was not a normal circumstance.

Heart thudding against her ribs, Kara lifted her bag in front of her face and scurried behind a row of potted ficus trees. After a moment, she risked peeking through the leaves at the god.

No, not a god.

A weretiger.

The breath seeped out of her, leaving her limp. How dare he look so good, so beautiful, so… unchanged?

Two years, almost three. But he hadn’t aged a day. Of course, shifters had exceptionally long lives, even shifters from the poor, forgotten branches of the breed—like her.

But she was certain she had aged a lifetime in the past two years, almost three. Everything had changed since that night.

Everything.

What was he doing here? If she’d ever thought he would show up in Boston, let alone this building, she never would’ve taken the waitressing job at the Platinum Club. So far as she knew, he wasn’t even an American. He was a globe-trotting playboy, he and his brothers loaded with as much old money as the Stantons, the powerful family of shifters who owned this building.

Well, she assumed they did. When Eva called her about working here, she’d implied as much. Eva, also a shifter of modest means, although not as modest as Kara’s, managed the Platinum Club. Eva was always looking for good waitstaff, she’d said, especially lately since there had been unusually high turnover.

He should be out in the world, enjoying his wealth, prestige, and gorgeousness—in both man and tiger form. He shouldn’t be parading around Boston when she was just figuring how to get through her life without him, not that she’d ever had her life with him, except for that one night. She and Nana had just moved into a two-bedroom apartment, and this job had an elite clientele with a salary to match. A salary they needed desperately.

Where’d he go? She peered through the branches again, an uncontrollable sigh drifting out of her.

He was out of sight and out of her life.

Again.

Another sigh.

Seeing him wasn’t only painful, but dangerous. However, as tempted as she was to turn and run out of the building and never look back—perhaps even shifting to speed her escape—she straightened her spine and held her ground.

She couldn’t leave. She needed this job. They all did. The days of only thinking of herself had passed.

After waiting another minute, she stepped out from behind the potted trees and walked to the elevator. Although the waitresses had a dressing room they could use before their shifts, Kara preferred to work as she’d arrived, in her favorite black dress and ballet flats. She liked how it made her invisible—or maybe she liked an excuse for why most people didn’t notice her, and even men she’d danced with, men she’d kissed, men she’d— Well, even they seemed capable of completely forgetting her. Easier to blame it on her boring clothes than on her face, body, or personality.

He’d walked within five feet of her and hadn’t even blinked. Neither one of his golden-lashed eyelids over his sapphire-blue irises had flickered a millimeter. She’d even gasped a little when he’d stepped in front of her. All morning, in fact, she’d been as jumpy as a cat at a pool party, sweating too much, breathing too fast—she’d thought it was nerves about starting the new job.

But it was nerves about him.

The father of her child.

And he didn’t even know her name.

Author Bio:

Diana Seere was raised by wolves in the forests outside Boston and San Francisco. The only time she spends in packs these days is at romance writing conventions. In truth, Diana is two New York Times and USA Today bestselling authors who decided to write shifter romance and have more fun.
