While I do not follow the raw food lifestyle, nor am I a vegan (my daughter is vegan, my son is a vegetarian), I try to incorporate raw meals into my weekly menu, as I believe in the health benefits of adding raw meals into a clean, healthy lifestyle. Finding great raw meals, however, is not always that easy, and especially not if you are looking for something else than simply desserts. Don’t get me anywhere close to a raw cheesecake, and don’t expect me to overindulge!
The Raw Deal Cookbook is one of those cookbooks that offer those who are new to the lifestyle, and those who have more experience in the field a great base. My favorite aspects of the book are the meal planning section, as well as the dinner recipes, but I am also very happy to see the attention to detail that was brought to teaching the basics of eating raw.
The Raw Deal Cookbook is also a visually stunning ebook, with clear, beautiful pictures, and well laid out, so that it is not just a joy to eat the prepared food, but also a joy to prepare it together with the books help. The author – Emily Monaco – has taken great care to make sure that this book is practical above all else.
My favorite recipes held within the pages of The Raw Deal Cookbook are:
- Kelp Noodle and Veggie “Stir Fry”
- Mango, cucumber, and wasabi nut summer roll – and
- Indian-spiced sprouted chick peas
I love all of the recipes, but these three stood out to me the most.
