Book Review: Formula For Danger by Desiree Holt – A Suspenseful Romance With A Paranormal Twist
Title: Formula For Danger
Author: Desiree Holt
Series: The Phoenix Agency – Book Six
Publisher: Kindle Press
Publication Date: September 17th, 2017
Genre: Romance, romantic suspense
Heat Warning: Steamy!
Formula For Danger by Desiree Holt is the first book in this series (called The Phoenix Agency), that I have read, so I was happily surprised to realize that it had a paranormal twist. That was surely a nice surprise, considering that I only read the book blurb (which you can see below), that does not mention anything about the paranormal.
Formula For Danger starts in the action-packed present day, but then flashes back to a few months earlier, giving a nice insight into the relationship of the two main characters, and how they fit into the group of people they are often surrounded by. It also gives an insight into the paranormal part of the story, which I enjoyed. This simple technique made for a great hook and drew me in from the beginning.
J. L. has trust issues, which is one of the main driving forces throughout this story, and Cole tries his best to show her that he is worthy of that trust. Throw in a intriguing plot containing a potential invention that will help a lot of people – but could make a lot of money for others, who stop at nothing to get it – and you have a powerful, action-packed story, that is an enjoyable, fast-paced read.Book Review: Formula For Danger by Desiree Holt - A Suspenseful Romance With A Paranormal Twist Click To Tweet
All of the characters within this large cast are very well developed, which added to the enjoyment of the story and were as easy to connect to as the main characters. The only point I could make is that there were a couple minor parts of the plot, that felt rushed. But a even paced novel is simply something that I prefer, and by no means should deter you from diving deeper into this story.
Even though it is the 6th book within this series, I did not have any problems keeping up with the plot. Formula For Danger is a true stand-alone novel, but it did make me want to read the rest of the series, in a hurry.
4.5 out of 5 Stars
Running back to Texas after an emotional disaster in San Francisco, J. L. Mitchell, microbiologist, is throwing herself into the development of a new, drought-resistant grain. Little did she expect to reconnect with Cole Martin, who rings al her bells, or to discover that her formula was at risk of being highjacked. As her work progresses, so does her relationship with Cole. When she is kidnapped, he brings all the recourse of The Phoenix Agency, where he has just become a partner, into play, hoping they will be in time.
